Eagle Bluffs

Yesterday afternoon/evening, our family took a drive out to a conservation area near us called Eagle Bluffs. It is so named because of the Missouri River bluffs that border it and the Bald Eagles that frequent it. For the past several years, a pair of them have nested in one of the huge trees located in the conservation area. We were even able to see one of these beautiful birds yesterday.

The area is a drive-through (though you can get out and walk whenever you want), and there are also several trails to walk too. There are varying sizes and depths of bodies of water to suit many different types of birds. Primarily what we saw yesterday were some waterfowl and a few sparrows (most of the bodies of water were frozen over so the numbers of birds were a bit low.) We love going to conservation areas as a family, and as we had not been out to Eagle Bluffs for quite some time (early last spring I believe), we were excited to go!

Some of the ducks that we saw - if I remember correctly, there were also two Canada geese in there somewhere.

Ryan enjoyed doing a bit of photography while we were out there

Out at Eagle Bluffs there are many huge, old trees such as these two - it is very pretty out there in the spring and summer time! Much more so than this time of year, but even in winter there is much beauty to be seen.

After a delightful drive and walk through Eagle Bluffs, we headed home. Dad surprised us by taking country backroads and that was so enjoyable! One road was a narrow gravel road that winded up and down through Missouri hills and woods . . . it was beautiful! I love these special times with my family whether it is when we are at home doing things together or out enjoying God's creation. No matter what we are doing, it is always a joy to spend time together - how thankful I am for my dear family!

  1. Sarah, what a special memory! the Lord is so good to give us memories! Now you have another one to add!

Looks like it was a very peaceful and lovely day! I love the scenery and since we live in the city, it's such a treat to see those pictures!

I noitced Ryan has a camera around his neck. Is that your camera or does he have his own? You have a good talent for pictures! I really enjoy yours!

I have too agree, family time IS wonderful! I am so glad you were able to have such a timeless memory as this!

  2. It looks like you had a wonderful time together! It must have been so interesting to watch some of God's creation. We don't get much of a chance to do something like that, but we enjoy watching the animals we do have around our yard and woods (songbirds, deer etc.).

  3. It looks like you all had a very nice time! Does Leah braid her own hair? It is really pretty!

  4. What a lovely day you had. I imagine there must be some interesting birds out there to watch.

  5. I like the picture of everyone with a pair of binoculars.

  6. Yes, we did have a lovely time, Ashley! Isn’t it wonderful to have so many special memories of the times that we spend with our family?! I know that you have many of them! :)

I am glad that you enjoyed the photos! And thank you for your kind words – I still have a lot to learn with photography, but it is enjoyable to do. :) The camera that Ryan had in the photos was his camera (he enjoys doing photography also.) It is always fun to ‘compare’ the photos that we both end up with! :)

  7. We did have a wonderful time, Anna! It is always interesting to observe God’s creation . . . I am sure that you enjoy being able to watch deer and the birds that come up to your feeder!

  8. We did, Amy! Yes, she does braid her own hair and does a great job! :)

  9. We did have a lovely day, Elizabeth! And yes, there were some interesting birds – not as many as some of the times when we’ve gone, but we were still able to pick out several different species. It is always fun, though, no matter what we see! :)

  10. I liked that one too, Amy! :)

  11. What a neat way to spend part of your day! We used to do some hiking together as a family and I have to say that we have some great memories from that. The time spent together was special...
    Have a great day!

  12. It is fun doing these types of things together, isn’t it, Ashley?! How wonderful that you have those special memories of your times with your family. :)

I hope that you have a wonderful day, too!

Thanks so much for your comment! Each one is read and enjoyed. :)
