Spring Cleaning

In the midst of all the activity around here the past month or so, Mom and I have been fitting in the spring cleaning as we had time and . . . it's just about all finished! But with gardening season upon us (and a host of other things as well), I'm not sure when we'll get to the rest of it. But at least all the main rooms are all deep cleaned now!

Wiping down the walls (and everything is in the center of the room in this photo. :)

The living room after it is all finished . . . I love the feel and look of a room that has just been deep cleaned!

Now I'm off to make dinner, and then will come chore time, maybe a walk, and then a pleasant evening spent together working on various things. For me, that will likely be embroidery . . . I've been working on my "days of the week" tea towels as I have time, and am now embroidering the one for "Day 6" (Bake on Saturday :) This has been a fun project, and I am looking forward to when they are all finished!

  1. I'm doing a litte bit of cleaning myself at the minute & I must say it does give me a real sense of "peace". I'm also waiting patiently for some Aida to arrive so I can do a new cross stitch ~looks like we're on the same wavelength at the moment Sarah lol!! Enjoy ~Marie x

  2. Momma and I have been contemplating spring cleaning as well, but realize that it's not going to be as in depth as it should be. I too love the feel of a freshly cleaned room; it look brighter and has a more cheerful feel to it. Add in open windows and it's perfect! Besides, around here it always means getting rid of things and making the house look a bit tidier!

    Have a terrific day, Sarah!

  3. I just love the picture of the room all cleaned! It reminds me of the satisfaction and contentment I always feel after I've deep cleaned a room. So wonderful! It makes me want to start spring cleaning!

  4. Oh please come over and start on mine Sarah!

  5. Dear Sarah,

How inspiring! I love "days of the week" dishtowels; they make dish-drying more fun :).

Your home looks so cozy and nice.

p.s. The word verification is "diship"!

  6. Bless your heart, are so industrious! Your spring cleaning picture gave me a strange sense of deja reminded me of your picture last year of spring cleaning! I do wonder about wiping down the walls each you think they get that noticeably dirty? Other than occasional cobwebs in high corners, I've never noticed a whole lot of dirt on ours, at least not high up. Down low, maybe some smudgy fingerprints, but I usually deal with those right away, as they occur.

What do you plan to do with your days of the week towels--display them, or use them?

I may have asked this before, but what time do you usually go to bed at night? Do you have a long time in the evening to work on your embroidery projects and such?

    ~ Betsy

  7. My daughter's and I have been mighty busy spring cleaning, also!! We are just so happy spring is here. The windows are open for fresh air to come into our home. We have most of the winter clothes put away and have swept all the cobwebs away! God bless,Rose

  8. We did ours a couple weeks ago for our spring break. It is so nice to step away from a project done well:)

  9. Your house does look very homey, Sarah! It looks all fresh and clean. :)

I have continued to work on cleaning our house, but I still have several rooms to go (and I haven't been able to be as thorough as I'd like).

I was covering some loaves of bread yesterday with a tea towel, and I noticed that our towels are getting very old and worn-looking. My grandma embroidered them with cows doing various things (cows with aprons, cows cooking, etc.), and gave them to us for a wedding gift (12 years ago!). I also have some tea towels embroidered with plates and spoons dancing (interesting) that David's grandma gave us. :) I'm thinking of making some of my own to replace these.

    Blessings to you this weekend!

  10. Your comment made me smile, Marie . . . it does sound like we’re thinking along the same lines! :) Have fun with your cleaning and cross-stitching!

  11. I agree, Ashley, deep cleaning does leave behind it a fresher and brighter room! Oh yes . . . and open windows! That is one thing I love about this time of year is being able to have the windows open. :)

I can just imagine how much fun you and your Momma have together when cleaning and de-cluttering! :) Have fun!

  12. Thank you for your comment, Anonymous! :) Yes, there is such a feeling of satisfaction and contentment after deep cleaning a room . . . it’s a wonderful feeling!

  13. That sounds like fun, Elizabeth! :)

  14. Thank you for your sweet comment, Marqueta! I would imagine that dish-drying would be more fun with “days of the week” towels. :) It will be nice when mine are ready to be used!

That’s funny about the word verification. :)

  15. Thank you for your kind comment, Betsy! Yes, this year’s picture turned out to be quite similar to last years’ . . . I thought the same thing when I looked through the photos! It’s funny how that happened! No, the walls do not get noticeably dirty, but I can tell a difference once they are wiped down as they are brighter and fresher looking. Most of what I wipe off is just dust but there are the occasional fingerprints, “bug spots”, and unidentified marks as well.

I think the tea towels will probably have both uses at some point in time. :) Both for display and for drying dishes!

No, I don’t normally have much time in the evening to work on projects during the spring, summer and fall months as our days are usually fairly long. I usually get to bed sometime between nine and ten, but sometimes it might be earlier or later . . . it just depends!

  16. That’s great that your daughters have been spring cleaning as well, Rose! Spring is such a wonderful time of year, isn’t it?! And open windows are definitely a welcome thing! :)

  17. How fun, Desiree! I would agree . . . it’s so nice to complete a project like this!

  18. Thank you for your kind comment, Joy! You sound like us . . . we still have several more rooms to go with the spring cleaning. Maybe you’ll be able to get to the rest of yours soon!

How nice that you have tea towels that your grandma’s gave to you! What treasures. I just love having/using things that were made by loved ones! Making tea towels is enjoyable to do, and if you do have the opportunity to do it sometime, have fun with them! :)

Thanks so much for your comment! Each one is read and enjoyed. :)
