New Arrivals

As of yesterday afternoon, we now have forty-two adorable little balls of cheeping fluff nestled comfortably in a rubbermaid tub sitting in the corner of our dining room . . .

Yesterday, Dad, Mom, Leah, Ashley and I drove down to a hatchery and picked up chicks! (Ryan had to work so he wasn't able to come.) We got the aforementioned forty-two for our family, and then Ryan and Ashley got ten. It was such a fun trip, and it was exciting to get chicks again!

A Partridge Rock and a Buff Orpington

They are so adorable, and I love holding them in my hand as they drift off to sleep. It is also rather entertaining to watch their little antics . . . they can go from running around cheeping to falling asleep on their feet in just moments! Such is the life of a little chick. :) At least for the time being . . . it's a bit hard to believe that in not so many months they will be our new batch of layers (and crowers :) - we got two cockerels in addition to the pullets.)

Ryan and Ashley's little chicks

So now we have a new dimension to our home life right now . . . lots of little cheeps filling the air and more 'critters' to be taking care of!

  1. Aw...they look so sweet, Sarah! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us! They look so soft and cuddlely and lots of fun to watch. Have fun with them while they are small!

  4. They are sweet, Bethany. :) I am glad that you enjoyed the photos of them! Yes, they are so soft and cuddly, and I love when they fall asleep in my hand. We’re enjoying this time when they are small as they grow so quickly!

Thank you for your sweet comment, and may you have a blessed day!

  7. How fun! I would love to get some laying hens this spring, but am not sure if we will or not as we don't have a coop built. I love having chickens:) and the little chicks are so adorable:) and fun to watch!

  8. How exciting! I'm delighted to hear that Ashley was able to join you and that Ryan and Ashley will have their own little brood of hens (is that the right term?).

I hope they are not too noisy at night when you are all trying to sleep.

  9. They are fun, Emily! That would be wonderful if it worked out for you to get a flock of laying hens this spring. Maybe you’ll be able to figure out a place to house them! Like you, I love having chickens . . . they are fun (albeit not very bright :) animals, and the eggs are such a blessing!

  10. It was, Miss Linda! We were so glad that it worked out for Ashley to come with us as well. :) We had a fun time! Ryan and Ashley are excited to have their own little chicks and then eventually, to have their own flock of laying hens!

So far, the chicks haven’t been too noisy . . . in fact, they have been rather calm and quiet which is nice. :)

  11. Ooohhhh, I love little chicks! They are so cute! We are anxiously waiting for my dad to finish his chicken coop so they can get their new chicks. Can't wait!

  12. I would agree, Joy! We always look forward to when we can get them again. :) How exciting that your Dad is building a coop and that they'll be getting chicks! I am sure you and your children will love that!

Thanks so much for your comment! Each one is read and enjoyed. :)
