Welcoming Gracen Elyse

It is with a heart overflowing with joy and thankfulness that I am able to share with you all the very wonderful news that the Lord has blessed Ryan and Ashley with a second little blessing!

Sweet Gracen

Gracen Elyse entered the world June 10th weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces, and she was 20 inches long - almost as long as Adelyn, but quite a bit lighter!

Around midnight on Saturday night, we got the call (one we had been waiting for!) from Ryan and Ashley that they were on their way to the hospital. They quickly stopped by our place to drop off Adelyn and all of her things (there will be more in a later post about our much enjoyed and special days with her), and then left for the hospital. We all didn't get a great deal of sleep that night with one reason being that Adelyn took awhile to fall back asleep and also because we were all so excited! The hours ticked by until mid-morning when the phone rang, and it was Ryan . . . Gracen had arrived! Thankfully, everything went very smoothly, and Mommy and baby were both doing well.

About five hours later with much anticipation, Dad, Mom, Leah, Adelyn and I were on our way to the hospital to meet our new granddaughter/niece/sister . . . words fail me to describe the emotions and specialness of this time!

Mom holding her new granddaughter . . . Gracen cracked her eyes open here! And let us see that they were a dark slate blue/gray color.

Me holding my precious niece for the first time . . . what a darling she is!

Leah so happy to be holding Gracen for the first time

Ryan was so happy! Albeit a little tired. And now he's the Daddy of two little girls!

Adelyn wasn't too sure about her new little sister at first . . . she was much more interested in Daddy and Mommy! (and the food on their plates, too [which is what she was looking at in the above photo] :) The next day, though, she seemed rather intrigued by her, and sat for a long time just looking at her . . .

Ashley with her two little daughters when she and Mom were introducing Adelyn to Gracen. It was a precious moment!

So sweet!

Two very happy and thankful grandparents with Gracen snuggled safely in her Grandpa's arms

"Behold, children are a gift from the LORD." (Psalm 127:3)

How true that verse is! A very precious gift . . .

From her long delicate fingers, to her cute little nose, to her tiny toes . . . Gracen is a precious and very special blessing that we are all so thankful to the Lord for. She has captured all of our hearts!

"For you formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well."
(Psalm 139:13-14)

I have a lot more photos to share that were taken in the days following her birth, and I hope to share those soon in upcoming posts!

*And just a little note for those of you who may be wondering . . . Ryan and Ashley had desired that this wonderful news wait to be shared until after Baby came into the world and until they had the opportunity to send out their birth announcements. So I held all of the excitement in over these months and am so excited to be able to share this with you now!

*And one more little note . . . this is the reason why I have been rather absent from the blogging world the past three weeks!

  3. Congratulations Aunt Sarah! The two little sisters are close in age aren't they? Just you wait and see how the sisters interact with each other when they're little older. I always loved & enjoyed watching my nieces & nephews playing together, the little ones following the older ones, hugging, kisses or sitting close together, etc. So cute!

Congratulations on such a beautiful blessing.

I totally understand with modern technology, immediately news is spread and it should be up to the parents thmselves to share it all with loved ones.

    People seem to forget that.

  10. Congratulations to you all! I am so glad to hear that another little girl has been brought safely into the world for Ryan and Ashley. Gracen is so small (though she probably has grown quite a bit now!) and precious! Such a blessing for you all!

I was wondering just a little – last Friday I was reading on your family's website and I read that Ryan and Ashey had two little girls. I didn't quite think it was a typing error! Though I must admit that I didn't guess that the second little girl had actually been born!

    Blessings,
    Anna

PS. The photos of Adelyn with her little sister are so cute! :)

It's coming up on Adelyn's birthday pretty soon isn't it?

  19. Oh Sarah, thank you so much for sharing this wonderful news with us! Congratulations to Ryan and Ashley and the whole family! Ashley must be thrilled to have two little girls since she didn't have any sisters :). I went back and looked at baby pictures of Adelyn and I can certainly tell that she and Gracen are sisters! It will be so much fun for you to watch those two grow up together. I look forward to seeing more pictures when you post them! I hope everyone is recovering well and may you have a blessed day!

  21. I've been wondering about Ashley and Ryan lately, and why there has been so little news about them on your blog. Now I see why there haven't been photos of Ashley...not even creatively cropped ones!:-)

Gracen is beautiful, and I, too, love her name. So much lovely dark hair! It will be quite a full season for Ashley and Ryan for awhile--both girls are so young-- but I'm sure there are two aunts whose hands can be quite helpful with them. And before very long, Gracen will crawl and walk just like big sister. As someone once said to me, when it comes to raising little ones, "the days are long, but the years are short!"

  24. Thank you, Leah! Yes, Adelyn and Gracen are only 11 months apart. It is going to be so much fun watching them grow up together! They’ll probably end up being more like twins since they are so close in age. :) I can just imagine how much you enjoy watching all of your nieces and nephews playing together! It made me smile reading what you shared. Special times!

And just think, it won’t be long before you’ll be doing your own post like this. :) I look forward to sharing more posts about Adelyn and Gracen in the coming months! Already I have two in the works . . . hopefully one will be up soon!

  31. Thank you so much, Anna! We, too, are so thankful that Gracen was brought safely into this world. Especially after Adelyn’s difficult birth last year! She is small isn’t she?! And so delicate, too. Yes, indeed she is such a blessing!

I didn’t even think about what was on our ministry site! Leah and I were going through and updating all of the websites with ages, etc. a few days before I put up the blog post, and the thought didn’t even enter my mind that a blog reader might visit there and see that. :) That’s funny that you discovered it! I’m sure it made you wonder. :) At least you didn’t have to wonder long!

    Thank you again, Anna!

  35. Thank you, Renee!! It will indeed be a joy . . . it has been so wonderful watching Adelyn learn, grow and change and develop her own little personality and now we have another sweet little girl to enjoy the same with! And yes, it will be wonderful watching the relationship between her and Adelyn! I think they will grow up being the best of friends. :)

  37. Thank you, Becky!! I had never heard of the name Gracen before our little niece was named that . . . it is a pretty name! (And her middle name is one of my favorite girl names. :) Like you, I much prefer the spelling that Ryan and Ashley chose.

Yes, Adelyn’s birthday is next week! It’s hard to believe she is already a year old and a big sister, too!

  39. You’re welcome, Anna, and thank you for your sweet comment!! Yes, Ashley is a very thrilled mother to her two precious little girls. She is loving it! And I love watching her as a mother . . . she is a wonderful one. :)

Adelyn and Gracen do have some similar features. The first few days there seemed to be more, but now that Gracen is getting older, she is looking less and less like Adelyn. It will be interesting to see how much alike they look once they are older!

Yes, it is going to be so fun watching them grow up together! I think they will be the best of friends. :)

Thank you again, Anna, and may you have a blessed day as well!

  40. She is, Amy! And thank you! We are so happy and thankful and are loving the time spent with her and Adelyn. The Lord has been so good to us!

  41. Well, wonder no more, Betsy! :) And yes, this is why they have been absent from my blog . . . photos would have been a little too telling and creative cropping didn’t work on the ones I did have!

Gracen does have a lot of dark hair, doesn’t she? That was a surprise as none of us had that much hair, and Ashley didn’t think any of her siblings did either. It is really fine and so soft to the touch!

Yes, there are two aunts (and a grandma :) who are very happy to have their hands put to use over at Ryan and Ashley’s house. It has been so enjoyable so far!

The statement you shared is so true! It is amazing how quickly time flies by . . . to think that only a little less than a year ago we were welcoming Adelyn into the world and now she is ‘talking’, learning to walk, and so much more!
