A World of Ice

Last weekend, the freezing rain went long into the night coating everything in a brilliant blanket of ice. It was a beautiful (and slick!) world we awoke to on Sunday morning! The temperature was quite cold, and the sun refused all day to peek through the thick gray cover of clouds. Judging by the forecast, the 3/8" or so of ice we had received was going to be here for awhile, so I refrained from going on a 'photography walk' until the cheery sunshine returned.

Monday morning that time had come! The sun broke through and lit everything up . . . and photos could not fully capture the incredible brilliance. It was so bright with the sun reflecting off of all of the ice that at times it hurt the eyes! Yet it was so beautiful as well . . .

It was slick walking on grass like this! Though easier on the grass than in the areas where the ground was bare. :)

The ice stayed well into the week until warmer tempertaures arrived. With that and sunshine, things began melting so quickly, and it looked like it was raining outside! And sounded like it, too. We enjoyed the beauty while it lasted, though we were all grateful to welcome the warmer weather and sunshine that we've had since then!

  2. Such contrast in the world! We are wilting under 33°C right now and no rain or cool change in sight.

  3. You did a wonderful job of capturing these ice creations, Sarah! Seems like so many states were hit with ice storms this past month--Texas included--and while it made traveling hazardous (and effectively shut down our corner of the Lone Star State), it certainly revealed breathtaking beauty as well! Thanks for taking the time to shoot-and-share!:-)

It's just after midnight in Australia and we have welcomed the new year in. Wishing you and your family a glad and peaceful 2014.

  6. Welcome to my blog, Rosie! And yes, there are significant contrasts in weather! I have to say, I would almost trade ours for yours right now. :) Too bad we can't balance each others' out!

  7. Thank you, Betsy! There have been a lot of widespread ice storms so far this winter . . . even in Texas! Things moved slower here as well, but thankfully they got the roads cleared fairly quickly.

    You're welcome for sharing!
